Stays fresh through season 4
It's amazing how well the writers do at keeping this show fresh into it's forth season. That's a long time to reuse characters. (Nearly every character in the show is a reboot of a famous fairy tale character)

The writers keep the characters original even though they have been around for longer than many of the viewers. They change the nature of the characters without being offensive to your childhood memories. (Captain Hook is a decent person. Peter Pan is evil. And somehow it works!) The Evil Queen from Snow White becomes likable after being evil, etc etc etc. It all keeps the story fresh, rather than being one episode after another where the same good guys battle the same bad guys over and over and over. The relationships between the characters are constantly evolving.

The addition of the Frozen characters so far this season has been interesting. The casting, make up, and costuming is PERFECT to match the animated Frozen characters.

A New Chapter In: Once Upon A Time

This season looks to be an even better one than the previous! I can hardly wait to watch more!
The plot thickens as Regina is torn between her dark past and a potentially bright future.

Mirror Mirror on the Wall, what's in store for Fans this Fall?
Looks like ABC/Disney might be pulling a few more stops on one of television's more imaginative and ambitious fantasy series as a brand new season of "Once Upon a Time" kicks off.

[Spoiler-lite synopsis] "A Tale of Two Sisters", as one might expect, possesses some serious Disney ambiance and after the ups and downs (lookin at you Peter Pan) of the previous season, it seems the writers have sort of recaptured the mystery element of Season One while continuing to hone the seamless blending of magical realms with our own. In spite of the mostly happy tenor of the Season Three finale, the more than slightly awkward reunion of Robin and Marian seems to have provoked a relapse for Regina, but thankfully Emma won't let it get her down as she continues to assume the role of savior (wish they'd think of another title) in more than name only and thankfully less of a third wheel or simply Henry's mother. Of course the biggest question on everyone's mind is about the bomb dropped in...

Love the series, but where the heck is episode #4? It's over a day late and hubby is getting restless.

Foolish payin for streaming video

Purchasing this video to stream each week. Its 3 pm, the episode aired yesterday on AMC. Called customer service twice. Its kinda tough to ask questions and hear answers from a customer service rep WHO DOESNT SPEAK ENGLISH! For now at least, in the United States most of us speak English. Soon SPANISH, however, if I cant watch my tv show I paid for, I can purchase this somewhere else. DONT PAY IN ADVANCE FOR A SEASON! I feel like a FOOL, paying for this service.

Spoiler alert: did not like the team split and sad ending for the IT Guy, who I thought had character possibilities untapped. Overall a winner episode. Good start, Great job!! Looking forward to more episodes in Season 12!!

NCIS's 12th season opens with a bang, as Gibbs and McGee travel to Russia to escort home a computer specialist who has made enemies. Their evacuation by helicopter goes badly; the three end up in the woods, twenty kilometers from the Finnish border, hunted by some nasty Russian mercenaries. It will be revealed that their leader is one Sergei Michnev, an old friend of Ziva David's half-brother Ari, and Sergei wants revenge on Gibbs. The chase through the forest is quite exciting. Gibbs and McGee will get a little help from the crew back at headquarters, and from Tony, who launches his own rescue mission. Great suspense for a good season opener, and this one will generate recurring danger for the team throughout the season.

This season, NCIS tries hard to back on track after the shambles caused by Ziva's departure last season. NSA transfer Eleanor Bishop becomes a regular part of the team, while her husband becomes best buds with Gibbs, of all people. Tony gets a new...

Review :
beautiful visuals. And gradually

The show started off strong -- intriguing plot, beautiful visuals. And gradually, as the season went on, the plot started going to shambles. Every episode was packed with the most ridiculous surprises that dissolved the realism of the characters and any chance at a deeper meaning. I should have seen it coming that the ending would be such an utter letdown. I'm sorry I watched this show.

Strange Story

The plot is fresh and original. I enjoyed the mystery, but I kept getting lost. Why would a Rabbi allow a crazy gentile preacher to raise a Jewish boy? It seemed implausible, but perhaps they will make this clear in later episodes. The story moved along well and was entertaining.

Spoiler Alert.

Their goal is to communicate with God. Huh? Wouldn't he be outraged when he found out what they had been doing? God's not some amoral force to be used by ruthless men. I thought we settled this with "Indiana Jones", but I guess not.

Worst finale EVER! (Spoilers)
I really loved this show. I thought it was well thought out, well written, compelling. Then, the final episode ruined it for me.

1. The "Hey, look over there," ending was lame. Christians, Jews, and the Moriahs (?) planned this event for more than 13 years and they are distracted by a little earthquake. They were planning ARMAGEDDON! I've never experienced the end of the world before but I would imagine that there would be more than a little 2.5 earthquake. You had one job: to kill the red heifer. You look out the window and someone steals your calf? Your plan wasn't so great if a little tremor distracted you.

2. Pastor Billingsly was killed by an evil cashew? Really? That was soooooooo lame I was literally laughing at the TV. The writers got paid for that? They need to pay me for making me watch that foolishness.

3. Emma/Rebecca falls in love Peter? She plans and schemes this entire thing. She changes her identity for more than...

Release price is way too high
The fact that another season is coming out in Blu-ray is great. The problem is that Paramount/CBS is releasing these with super high prices. While plenty of people say you can just wait and they'll eventually come down in price (like season 1 did) and that is true, the problem is that if they keep releasing these with high prices and people keep waiting a year to buy, they may eventually stop releasing for perceived lack of demand. Plenty of people are already nervous that this is what's happened with Andy Griffith since both Lucy and Griffith S1 blu's were released at the same time and now there's only notice of Lucy S2. They may have wrongly assumed that just because people didn't want to buy Andy Griffith S1 for a hundred bucks that there's no demand, when really there is demand, just at a reasonable price-point like 30-35 dollars. Over a hundred dollars for one season of Lucy on Blu-ray, when you can buy the entire series for that price on DVD with LOADS of special features...
Awesome, as expected.
People, PLEASE stop driving the review rating down on this wonderful product based solely on price. As another reviewer mentioned, the cost involved in doing a frame by frame restoration of 60+ year old films has to be through the roof. CBS is sparing no expense in putting these superb "Ultimate Seasons" together. What do you all expect the price to be, 20 bucks? If it's out of your price range, either don't buy it, or wait about a year until the price drops substantially.

Now, as for the product itself, I received my "Ultimate Season 2" on it's release date, 8/4/15. I'm about 6 episodes in, and so far season 2 is just as gorgeous as season 1. Stunning picture quality. The bonus features are great as well. I'm a Lucy fanatic, but I've never seen "The I Love Lucy Movie" before. So glad that they included it in the bonus features. The "Job Switching" episode with audio commentary was really cool too. Thomas J. Watson is the man! He's doing an...

I don't have to see this to know that it will be great like Volume 1. For those of you complaining about no interest and possible discontinuation of the series on blu ray...RELAX. These show are just making their way onto HD stations. They're still marketable and profitable. They will continue to master in HD and have the added bonus of us all buying the series again on blu ray. It's a win-win situation. They WILL release all seasons. Therefore, punk, I have to ask you one question. Can you wait for the price to come down or do you need it now?

Murdoch Mysteries never a disappointment.

Murdoch Mysteries gets better every season. Very exciting and suspenseful. The season starts with challenges for Inspector Brackenreid and ends with a cliffhanger for Geoge Crabtree. I just love this series, every primary character and every supporting character!! Great writing!!! I can't wait for Season 9!!! Enjoy!!!

Murdoch Mysteries gets better every season. Very exciting and suspenseful. The season starts with challenges for Inspector Brackenreid and ends with a cliffhanger for Geoge Crabtree. I just love this series, every primary character and every supporting character!! Great writing!!! I can't wait for Season 9!!! Enjoy!!!

Its kinda tough to ask questions and hear answers from a customer service rep WHO DOESNT SPEAK ENGLISH! For now at least, in the United States most of us speak English. Soon SPANISH, however, if I cant watch my tv show I paid for, I can purchase this somewhere else. DONT PAY IN ADVANCE FOR A SEASON! I feel like a FOOL, paying for this service.

How will they do it?
No gratuitous sex or graphic nudity and no vacuous blondes or muscle bound heroes with cringe-worthy dialogue. The plots in this show are intriguing. The actors are entertaining and you care about what happens to their characters.

I confess I would never have thought Jim Caviezel (John) and Michael Emerson (Harold) would make effective protagonists in a show like this, but what a great combination they are. One of those "lightening in a bottle" casting decisions you're so glad has been made whether it was on purpose or accidental or a little of both. Happily their satellite characters are as entertaining a group as you'll find, each with his/her own set of quirks. All together, this ensemble cast takes you from humor through great sadness. Better yet the show has wonderfully interesting villains. They seem to range from shades of mildly bad to "I want to see this guy get squashed like a bug" evil.

In the end the "good" guys...

This is the only TV show that I have the first 3 seasons and will definitely buy this 4th season. Love the characters, even Root, especially love the story line. This story line literally runs parallel with how things appear in society. Although this is fiction; it does make you wonder.

Having watched the high-definition version of the long-awaited seven part serialization of the Susanna Clarke novel about the return of magic to Napoleonic-era England after a 300 year long absence, it is gratifying to say that the series more than does the book justice. Those of us who loved the novel were somewhat worried that no single film could approach its richness of characterization and period detail, and certainly no two or three hour film could. But a seven part serialization with production values as high as any I've ever seen, a recreation of the era that is so lovingly detailed you would think that you were watching a documentary rather than a drama, and acting so spot-on that the characters seem to have literally leapt off the page and on to the screen, give this series all of the life that made the novel so remarkable. Not since the 1995 Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice has there been a small-screen version of a celebrated novel as brilliant as this one...
Magic is returned to England...and television.

I have not loved a TV show as thoroughly and completely without complaint since Firefly. An absolutely astounding bit of entertainment in its own right, it also has the distinction of being one of the purest adaptations in book-to-television or book-to-film history. I can't think of an adaptation this faithful since the Megan Follows-led Anne of Green Gables.

I cannot possibly recommend it enough. I intend to buy multiple copies and give them away as gifts. Even to people I don't like that much.

So absolutely worth your time.

An extraordinary production
I can make no comparisons to the book since I've not read very far in it yet, but perhaps that's a good thing. Every work of art must be it's own thing, borrowing, certainly, inspired by other things, certainly, but copying nothing. And honestly I have never seen anything quite like Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.

On the surface it's a tale about how magic re-enters the world. But if that was the only thing it was about, it would almost certainly not be as rich and intriguing as it is. Magic isn't really the central focus here. Rather, what we see is the politics of magic (and life), the tension between different ideologies with Norrell upholding the idea of practical, disciplined, "respectable" magic, and Strange seeking the old, wild magic of the Raven King. Neither sees that the two are not mutually exclusive.

Everything about this production is perfect. The performances are superb, the sets and costumes spot on period pieces with just enough...

One Of The Best New TV Shows In Years!

Wow, The Knick is just on another level, and It's by far one of the best new TV shows in years! Each episode feels exciting, special and leaves you wanting more every time. The Knick is the story of Doctor John Thackery, a surgeon in the early 1900s who is a pioneer in his field with a little bit of a cocaine problem. The Knick is truly special, and will not disappoint.

Terrific, tense, and totally groundbreaking, showcasing some of the bloodiest operation scenes I’ve ever seen and probably ever filmed, The Knick is one of the best shows on television or any medium for that matter, period. Series creators Jack Amiel and Michael Begler deserve a round of applause. These two do most of the writing for the show leading to episodes that are fantastically entertaining and hypnotic in a way that you can’t take your eyes off the screen. The same could be said for Clive Owen. He is brilliantly haunting as Dr. John W. Thackery in one of the best performances of his career. The direction by Steven Soderbergh is sublime, making every episode worth watching and always wanting to see more. The score contributes to the hypnotic, haunting quality of the Knick with electronic beats that elevate the scene into a mixture of nearly unbearable tension and intrigue. I’ve seen seven of the ten episodes so far, and the show has just peaked in it seventh...

The Knick has become one of my favorite television series, and Season 2 will be must-watch TV for me. Set in the Knickerbocker Hospital of in New York City in the early 1900's, The Knick explores several social and public health issues by examining the interactions in this central location. Dr. John Thackery, played by Clive Owen, battles drug addiction and ego as he strives to become one of the most renowned surgeons of his time. Dr. Algernon Edwards, a black physician portrayed by Andre Holland, also strives for success in medicine but constantly battles prejudice and oppression as a black man in America. Several other interesting characters struggle through everyday life at the Knick.

While the individual characters are very interesting, what I found to be fascinating was the The Knick's portrayal of medical practices at the turn of the 20th Century. Doctors perform surgeries on patients without gloves. Liquid cocaine, along with ether, are chosen as analgesics for...

I hear the cool-ass strains of The Heavy's "Short Change Hero" and I know it's time for another season of Strike Back. For the completists, Season 3 is known in the United Kingdom as Strike Back: Shadow Warfare. To them British viewers, this Season 3 is actually Season 4 (or Series 4). Cinemax doesn't count the actual first season (that starred Richard Armitage) because the cable network didn't get involved with co-producing the show until Series 2 (which was then promptly re-labeled as Season 1).

Back on Track
I liked season one pretty much but season two seemed to drop off in the story department. Things were stretched pretty thin and were fleshed out with more action. Season three has gotten the series back on track.

Here's the scoop. A mid-eastern terrorist group has been working on a weapons version of smallpox. They have a team in place that will release this in various places and some huge number of people. So....it's up to section 20 to thwart the effort.

This has all the the earmarks of the first two season. Scott and Stonebridge in dicey situations. Down to the second saves. Heavy duty sex/nudity and Scott dropping the F bomb pretty much all the time. But here the plot is much more intricate. The Kamali character is still a mystery. Whose side is he on? And every time the near objective is close at hand, something (or someone) puts it out of reach so, of course, it will come down to a tight finish.

The plot moves at an even pace. The action scenes...
Strike Back Seaon 3

I have seen episodes on HBO and own seasons 1 and 2 and it is really an awesome series. When I first started viewing season one I had to buy it and season 2 and am waiting not patiently for the 3rd season. I have hundreds of DVD's but this show is my favorite of all. It is full of action, the scene locations are excellent, the actors are excellent and there are never a dull moment. I was and am very impressed with the story lines, the combat scenes and the detail used in armament and life like fire fights and the quality used in making the show. Absolutely well done and I give it 5 stars because I cannot rate it higher. I hope this review is helpful to you.

In for the long haul.
"Orphan Black is a show that I would be unlikely to watch. Not my choice of viewing fare". These were my thoughts when the BBCA started promoting OB for the first season. I was running out of shows I do enjoy, and thought I'd just take a chance, step outside my viewing comfort zone and give OB a try. Major score on my part. The show has a nice little plot line that could quickly grow stale if mishandled. The direction, filming and writing have been outstanding from the start. There's no notable difference from episode 1, season 1 than the end of season 2. The cast? I'm sure many have read the reviews, the feedback on the cast and if you think it's all media hype, you're mistaken. And yes, Tatiana Maslany is everything she's stated to be and more. How in the world she's not been nominated for an Emmy is beyond me but her fans and the fans of Orphan Black are all she really needs. She'll do more in the future but please, let's not get too far ahead. We need many more seasons of...
I love the story

I love the story, the suspense, the drama, the action, and the fact that so many new and important events take place in each episode. You never get bored. The actress that plays all the characters is very versatile. As intense as the series is, there are many entertaining things that happen as well. I have found myself laughing when I should have been covering my eyes and screaming. I really like Helena. She is my favorite. An unpredictable lunatic who will capture your heart. I would like to say a lot more, but I don't want to spoil it for you. I can only assure you, that you will like it so much that hours will fly while you watch it, and you won't even realize it.

The best show you aren't, but should be, watching!
I cannot wait for Season Three to start! My Mom introduced me to this show last March. She had downloaded them onto my Kindle and told me to watch. And I watched, for seven and a half hours straight. The first time. I watched the first season four times in the two weeks before the second season started. It's that good. Tatiana Maslany is amazing as Sarah, Cosima, Helena, Allison, Beth, Rachel, Katya, Jennifer, etc. (Don't worry, you won't have to keep up with all of those characters!) Before she opens her mouth you can tell which of the characters she's channeling, not because of the different hairstyles or clothes, but because she's made them each a different woman. When I watch the show, it's so easy to believe I'm watching different actors playing different characters. When Allison steps in to help Sarah, by pretending she is Sarah, what you see is Allison pretending to be Sarah, not Tatiana being Sarah. The entire cast is brilliant, and they each hold their own against these crazy...

Low I.Q. and questionable parentage
SOA is one, single work of art. It can't fairly or accurately be judged or critiqued based on an episode or a season. It is one story. I am so tired of reading about the violence of Season 7 and the lack of "emotional resonance". There is a reason that things are so different now. The decisions that have been made by the characters in the past have brought them to this point. There is no "emotional resonance" with Jax because he has shut down all of his emotions due to the pain of losing his wife and he is totally emotionally numb. Obviously, if he lives long enough and the narrative continues long enough, we will get to see him have to deal with his emotions when they come crashing back. No one can box their emotions away indefinitely. We will also get to see him have to deal with the consequences of all the violence that has been caused by his mother's lie and his numbness-fueled rage. The violence is an integral part of the story and anyone who is offended...
Hard, mean, old and evil...

I started asking myself last season "Why am I doing this to myself?" as I cringed through episode after episode. Yet I keep watching. Maybe that's the mark of a good show, I don't know. I think that I am watching this season because I want to see Gemma get her due. For all her talk of family, family, family, and how she loves, loves, loves her family, she has caused more pain and destruction to her beloved family than a stranger who set out purposely to destroy them ever could have. Yet she continues to tell herself that she loves what's left of them and only wants to protect them. She's clearly a psychopath and is beginning to look like one. I don't know what hair and makeup are doing with her, it's subtle, but she looks hard, mean, old and evil already this season. It's hard to believe that Jimmy Smits would come back to her, but that must be something that has to happen to push the story forward.

One Hell of a Ride! (Spoilers)
Sons of anarchy has been like a roller coaster ride of chaos. Anybody who has stuck with it this far knows what I'm talking about. Brilliant writing, peerless cast, all around a great experience. Unfortunately, all good things must eventually come to an end, and it's time for SOA's final ride. As we all know, last season ended on an explosive note. I won't post any spoilers until the season ends, but so far SOA has not dissapointed. It took a few episodes for the action to really heat up, but now that it has, WOW, Tuesday nights can not come fast enough for me. I'll be posting an updated review of my thoughts on the season as a whole after the last episode airs, and then on this box set itself after the DVD/BR comes out.

Wow, what a mind-blowing finale. I'm so sad to be saying goodbye to this series. The acting during the final season was incredible. Some of the most powerful performances on television this year. I was tearing up right there with Chibs...

Welcome addition to the NCIS family. (No Spoilers)
4.5 stars, looking forward to a 5 star season 2.

The show was introduced in the NCIS crossover episode "Crescent City", and 5 months later the NCIS: New Orleans pilot aired. The show is not as polished as the original NCIS (Yet), the actors are getting handles on their characters, and the writers are starting up their long haul stories. Season 1 is good, but I think season 2 will be better.

The team is led by Dwayne Cassius Pride, sometimes called "King". He is a friendly NCIS Agent who loves the city of New Orleans, his family, cooking, making music, and catching bad guys.

Christopher LaSalle is next in line, he has been on Prides team for a while, raised in Alabama he talks sweet to the ladies and talks strait with the guys.

Both Pride and LaSalle have strong southern chivalrous demeanors and very good reputations throughout New Orleans.

I love all three NCIS series

I have stated this before. I love all three NCIS series. One must remember that each series is not going to be the same as the others in their story line or the way the characters interact with one another. In NCIS New Orleans, it has been fun to learn about the history of New Orleans as well as the stories for each week. The challenge is always there to try to solve the murder before the show does. It draws you in, keeps you there untill the end. Its just a wonderful series.

1985's SCREAMPLAY is one of those rarities among independently produced films that embraces its low budget and inexperienced actors and uses them to great advantage, and the result is an entertaining flick that is better than 90% of the tripe that comes from mainstream Hollywood. Edgar Allen is a screen writer who came to Hollywood to sell his movie, only to have horrible luck and a horrible job as a janitor at a cheap hotel.
When he starts writing his horror novel about an ingenious serial killer, the murders start actully happening, leaving him guessing who is committing the murders ! And when the killer is revealed, you wont believe your eyes !
The acting is wonderful, the story is fantastic, the box art is wonderful, and I even think that Paul Bartel had a brief cameo in this ! A must see for every Troma fan !

So bad it's hilarious!

This isn't a movie where the actors are playing it straight and it comes off stupid. These folks are playing it for yucks from scene 1. It's wonderful. I paused the movie to write this and I can't wait to get back. This is great. Might be worth buying.

This video is a lengthy "interview" with a guy claiming to have been at Area 51... it's a great promotion for his ficitonal books, but it's essentially just silliness about aliens and an enlisted USAF weatherman who apparently was given complete freedom to interact with aliens without supervision by his superiors in the military ("none of this is classified" - oh really?). I could go on and on and on about how silly this is. But, if you are interested in the interviewee's fictional books, this makes for great backstory.

It's obvious they (author of descriptive cover comments) didn't watch or listen to this interview. A hollywood sensationalist, or perhaps a publishing house ersatz pundit who cares not for accuracy, or concise descriptive text.
Be that as it may, this is an interesting narrative with many seemingly innocuous observations which to me validate this fellow is telling the truth. The most unbelievable statements he makes concern his briefings and mission orders. I could be way off (wouldn't be the first time) and this is a reverse-disinformation psy-op by a poor brainwashed likeable ol' boy. Three stars for common sense and calm delivery. He makes many good points about human nature. I ask others to decide for themselves...and do not limit yourself to this poorly produced interview in searching for ET truth.

I GOT SHOTGUN

Cooper (Reese Witherspoon) is a "hyper-focus" policewoman. She is allowed to leave the evidence locker to escort a reluctant high value witness (Sofía Vergara) to Dallas. Circumstances causes their plans to go awry and they become on the run, trying to avoid both criminals and cops who want them dead.

The movie is cute, but not an over powering comedy. The jokes get old fast such as Sofia's age and Witherspoon's height. Sofia wear a shirt which says "Butter my Biscuits" for much of the film while Reese boasts a red dress. They shared a kissing scene and a cat fight because that is what the writers had to stoop to to get laughs. The film had potential as Reese got to use a full southern accent, but the script flopped.

Guide: F-bomb in soundtrack. No sex or nudity.

Entertaining enough but fell short

To he honest I was a bit disappointed by this movie, I mean sure it was entertaining enough that I watch the whole thing but it wasn't anything memorable. I love Reese Witherspoon and she is such a talented actress, that's why I even decided to try this movie out. I was pretty upset with it because its suppose to be a comedy but I didn't really laugh much. I hope that the next movie she stars in will be a little bit more memorable and fun.

When she is told she must escort Daniella Riva (Vergara) to Dallas in order for her to testify she is excited about finally getting a real job. Things immediately change and now her and Daniella are fugitives and it is up to Cooper to expose what is going on and keep Daniella safe. I wasn't really looking forward to this because I am not a Sofía Vergara fan at all. I was expecting something that tries to hard to be funny, like her but falls flat and is boring. I got something in the middle. The movie was much funnier than I expected, but on the other hand is nothing all that amazing and I thought The Heat was better. This is a movie that isn't a bad watch and is something you can put in and laugh at without having to think too much. Every once in a while that is a needed...

Although this film is filled with a bevy of excellent actors and actresses, and although he did play the part of Gracchus in SPARTACUS a couple of years later, and an excellent supporting role in ADVISE AND CONSENT a couple of years after that, this is the last truly great performance in the career of perhaps the greatest character actor film has seen. Charles Laughton steals the show...
Elsa Lanchester is brilliant as the nurse for the acerbic barrister, newly home from the hospital after suffering a heart attack; nevertheless, he continues to smoke cigars and drink brandy whenever he can be skillful enough to hide them from the ever watchful Miss Plimsill (Lanchester). Tyrone Power is superb as the charming, disingenuous ne'er-do-well, unable to settle down after the War, and inventing egg beaters that beat AND separate the yolk from the white, and other dubious household necessities. Marlene Dietrich makes a Grand Entrance, and promptly puzzles Sir Wilfrid beyond speech, with her apparent cool, collected behaviour upon hearing her husband is going to be charged with the murder of Emily French, a rich older widow befriended by Power when he assisted her in the selection of a hat. The trial is the real action and centerpiece of the movie. but I enjoyed the byplay between Sir Wilfrid and Miss Plimsill even more...upon emerging from the car when he first comes home,...
Entertaining Trial Movie That Still Holds Up
This is one of the best "trial movies" ever made. It's an outstanding film that is just as good today as it was almost 50 years ago when it was released in the theaters. The shocking ending caused quite a stir back then, too.

The only part of the movie I thought looked dated and unrealistic was Tyrone Power's character being able to interrupt the trial with outbursts and not be reprimanded for it. There is no way that would be tolerated, at least today.

Otherwise, it's a pretty solid film with a good cast that includes two fascinating characters played by actors who know how to entertain: Charles Laughton and Marlene Dietrich.

Laughton, who plays Power's defense attorney, grabs the spotlight in the story but Dietrich almost steals the movie in her role as Power's wife. Laughton's dialog is terrific throughout, bringing a number of laughs to this serious film. He's just a joy to watch. Dietrich is even more riveting but just doesn't have anywhere near...

taut, emotional drama with lots of action and brilliant acting, too
The Love Light is an excellent Mary Pickford vehicle that packs incredible amounts of action and adventure into the total running time of 89 minutes. This taut drama focuses on the life and times of Angela Carlotti (Mary Pickford) just before the First World War, during the war and thereafter. The acting is rather good although there are a few times when some of their "faces" are exaggerated; and the plot held my attention every step of the way. The music that goes along with the film could have been better but it doesn't truly lessen the value of the film.

When the action begins, Angela Carlotti is seen with her brothers Mario (Eddie Phillips) and Antonio (Jean De Briac). They tease the amorous Giovanni (Raymond Bloomer) who pines away for Angela even though she does not return his love. Unfortunately, war breaks out and Angela's two brothers go to serve much to Angela's chagrin.

A Fine Pickford Performance
The Love Light is a good Mary Pickford film with an interesting story. It is set in Italy during the First World War. Pickford plays Angela and shows, with this role, that her acting was not at all limited in scope. The standard image of `Little Mary' is of someone who always played cute girls, as if she was some sort of silent Shirley Temple. Granted there were a fair number of little girl roles in Pickford's career, but there were also many films, like The Love Light, where she played fully realised adult characters. But whether playing children or adults, she always made the audience care about her. This ability to evoke sympathy is the secret to Pickford's acting and the reason why her films can still be such a wonderful emotional experience. As Angela she has moments of great comedy, including a very funny dance sequence, but what makes this role so special is the dramatic acting. Pickford shows the despair of wartime life. A scene where she almost descends into madness is truly...
Historical Film

This release gives us a film, not just with America's Sweetheart, but written and DIRECTED by Frances Marion who wrote more screenplays than any other woman in screen history. It's a wonderful love story about a woman who falls in love with a stray (AWOL) soldier who she thinks is American. But he turns out to be German. Not a comedy. Nice print, nicely restored. The musical accompaniment starts out quite nice and eventually nearly drove me crazy. But you can always turn it off. The film is worth it.....
